JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT COMPANY PROGRAM
Hey Lasers! Have you ever thought of creating your own business? Do you have any great product ideas? Do you want to make new friends, gain experience and knowledge of the business world, and… make money? The Junior Achievement company program encompasses all of these aspects and more! The 18-week program takes place every Monday from 6:30-9:00 pm at Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor Essex from October 29th to April 8th. You can receive awards, scholarship opportunities, and more with this internationally recognized program. Spots are limited and are filling up quickly so make sure to check out the sign up sheet on Mr. Gilbert’s door (room 253) or the LaserNews Instagram to sign up!


FRENCH IMMERSION
Any students from the Grade 12 French Immersion program interested in attending a job fair for bilingual careers are asked to see Madame Tomaselli in Room 201.



YOGA CLUB
Yoga and Meditation schedule for this week is as follows:
Tuesday 3:00-3:50PM in the afternoon  for staff only
Wednesday 7:15-8:15AM in the morning for staff and students
in Room 201. All are welcome.


COPA DI RAYO
Any students interested in forming a team to compete for the majestic Copa di Rayo, St. Joseph's lunch-intramural indoor soccer league, please see Mr. Castagna sometime this week in CORE Services, room 151 during lunch.



WRITING CONTESTS
Attention Writers.

There are many writing contests posted on the Literary Lasers board upstairs (next to the elevator). These include poetry, short stories, and essays. New contests have been added recently and some have cash prizes. Take a look at the Literary Lasers bulletin board next to the elevator on the 2nd floor. 


ITALIAN SCHOOL
High school students interested in learning Italian and earning a credit are reminded that classes start Tonight at 6 pm at the Ciociaro Club. Interested students should see their guidance counselor TODAY for an application, and should also attend tonight's session.


CURLING TEAM
Attention Lasers who are interested in learning the sport of CURLING! 
Please sign up Tues, Wed, Thurs this week, room 202 at lunchtime. 
There will be a brief meeting for all those who have signed up on FRIDAY.


Curling will begin next week. 


SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB
There will be a very important Social Justice Club meeting today, at lunch, in Room 257. Everyone is welcome!


ROBOTICS CLUB
We will be holding our first official robotics meeting tonight (Tuesday) after school in room #168. All are welcome.



UNITED WAY
Attention all staff: United Way pledge forms have been placed in your mailboxes. Complete the forms with your pledges by October 30th and return them to Miss Touma in Room 155. Please do not leave completed forms with cheques, cash or credit card information in Miss Touma's mailbox. Kindly hand them to her in Room 155. Should you have any questions or concerns please see Ms. Touma.


WE PROJECT/ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Attention All Students: There is a meeting for the WE Project and the St. Vincent De Paul Society today at lunch in room 155. Please bring your lunch and join us. New members are always welcome.



ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB
Attention All Students: There is a meeting for the Environmental Club today after school in room 155. We will be meeting to go out and do clean up today. Even if you are not part of the club and want to earn volunteer hours join us after school today to help clean up and bring your yellow sheets to fill out for your volunteer hours. Thanks. 


UNITED FANDOMS CLUB
Reminder to all United Fandom Members of the usual meeting in Room 217 this Wednesday. The Halloween Show is on schedule for Oct 30th and planning continues at lunch in Room 217 this week.


SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Congratulations to the St. Joe's Science Olympiad Team who competed at the University of Windsor last Friday.  It was a fun-filled, brain testing, problem-solving day!  The students did well in all the chemistry, physics, biology and engineering activities, but excelled in making hoops in the NBA draft economics task!  The Team will be visible this Friday when they wear their Science Olympiad shirts, so congratulate them on a job well done!


WINTERBALL
The Winterball is coming this November 16, a PA day, at the Caboto Club. Tickets will be sold during the first week of November for $40–dinner is included. Doors will be open at 6pm and dinner will be served at 7. See you there!


GIRLS HOCKEY
A reminder to all girls trying out for the school hockey team..

The first tryout is Wednesday, October 17th at 3:30 pm at the WFCU Centre. Please remember to have your 10 dollars for each session. If you are unable to attend, please see Coach Kittl before the tryout.

Don't forget to stop by room 111 today to buy your frozen yogurt for only $2.50.  All proceeds go to the Life Skills program.  Thank you for your support!


FIRST NATIONS, METIS, INUIT COURSE
Lasers! Check out this week's First Nations, Metis, Inuit bulletin board across from the attendance office.  Every week, there will be new artistry and information provided by students in the NBE 3U  (First Nations, Metis, Inuit Literature) course that was originally designed to promote awareness and inspire a movement forward in Truth and Reconciliation.  Thank you for your interest and support!  



BLOOD DRIVE
All blood drive committee members, please meet Ms. Flynn at the beginning of lunch today (Tuesday) in the Literacy office for a very brief meeting. Those students who spoke to me last week about helping the day of blood drive, please also attend this meeting. 


This year's first blood drive will take place on Wednesday October 24 in our gym. Students 17 and older are eligible to donate. Lasers under 17 can have a family member 18 years or older donate on their behalf. Signups will take place at lunch all week in the Learning Commons. 
All lasers who donate or get a family member to donate on their behalf are eligible for a dress down. Details on the dress down day are to be announced.
