Thursday's Announcements

SWIM TEAM
To all members of the swim team ––  "on land" training will start Monday, October 29th after school in the weight room. 
We will start RIGHT at 3pm, so be changed and ready to work!  This is not mandatory, but available to any swimmers who want to add training and workouts.
Future training dates will be posted in the St. Joe's Swim Team Google Classroom.


HALLOWEEN FOR HUNGER
Attention All Students: Our annual Halloween for Hunger event will begin Monday, October 29. We are asking that you donate $2.00 to receive a dress up pass to be able to wear your Halloween Costumes to school on Wednesday, October 31. 

Collections will be done in your period 1 classes and we will be collecting Monday to Wednesday, October 29th to October 30th. All of the money collected will be divided up and given to the United Way as a student donation and to the St. Vincent De Paul Society to help feed the hungry in our community. 

Teachers, envelopes will be in your mailboxes for Monday, October 29th and will have further instructions and explanations. Thank you for your support and cooperation.


UNITED WAY
Attention All Staff: On Friday, October 26th, please bring your United Way forms with you to our PD Day meeting if you have not already handed them in. They will be collected at the meeting and extra forms will be available for anyone who misplaced or lost their forms. Please support this very worthy cause.


WE PROJECT/ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Attention All Students: There is a meeting for the WE Project/St. Vincent De Paul Society today at lunch in room 155. We will be finalizing plans for our Halloween for Hunger event next week. Please bring your lunch and join us. New members are always welcome.


COPA DI RAYO
Reminder to all students interested in participating in this year's Copa di Rayo 3 v 3 indoor lunch soccer league registration is due this Thursday to Mr. Castagna in CORE Services, Room 151. If there are any questions or concerns please see Mr. Castagna in Room 151.


BLOOD DRIVE
Much appreciation goes out to all students and staff who gave, or attempted to give blood at yesterday's first blood drive of the year. With the support of students, teachers, grads, and parents, we were able to surpass our goal of 64 units of blood, collecting 66 total units, with 90 people coming through the doors. 


Your dress down day for donating will be next Friday, November 2. A list will be posted outside of the attendance office next week, and homeroom teachers will distribute dress down passes. The next drive will be held on February 12. It's in you to give!


UNIVERSITY VISIT
Grade 12s –– Brock University will be in the atrium at lunch today.  Check it out!


SHAD

This message is for all Grade 10 and 11 students who have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art or Math.  SHAD is an enrichment program where participants live at a host university campus outside their hometown for the month of July.  At SHAD, exceptional youth are empowered to recognize their potential as leaders and change makers. You will also receive the SHAD Fellow Designation, which is recognized and valued by universities, scholarship providers and employers. If you would like to know more about this amazing opportunity please see Ms. Gilbert in guidance.  The deadline to apply is November 19.


BUILD A DREAM

This message is for ALL Grade 9 to 11 girls who may have an interest in skilled trades, STEM, emergency response and entrepreneurship.  The Windsor chapter of "Build a Dream" will be holding their annual event on November 8th at the Ciociaro Club from 4-9 PM.  This is a wonderful opportunity for young women to hear about career pathways under-represented by women in our community, to access information, resources, networks, and role models. There is no charge for this event, dinner is included, parents are encouraged to attend.  Space is limited.  For more information please see Ms. Gilbert in guidance as soon as possible.


TD SCHOLARSHIP

The TD scholarship is interested in hearing from students who have demonstrated consistent and outstanding dedication to solving a community problem or making their community a better place. Eligible students must have a minimum overall grade average of 76% in their most recently completed school year.  The due date for this scholarship is November 16th. For further information check out the guidance scholarship page found through St Joseph's High School Portal or come and talk with Ms Cuderman in guidance for more information. In the past we have had students win this very large and prestigious scholarship.


WRESTLING TEAM

If you want to improve yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically and are willing to work hard to do so, then wrestling would right for you. Wrestling will help you develop mental toughness and a fearless, confident attitude. Wrestling will teach you how to work through physical and mental pain and exhaustion, how to set goals and reach them and how to make failure and challenge your learning curves for success. Sign up on the list outside of Room 162, or speak with Mr Menard or Mrs. Carpio-Sementilli for more information.


BOYS HOCKEY

Tryouts will begin Tuesday October 30 at 3:40 P.M., in the AM 800 rink at the WFCU and Thursday November 1st. Make sure that YOU –– and NOT YOUR MOM AND DAD have all your OHL approved equipment and a jersey in your hockey bag as you will be receiving a  numbered pinny when you register with your $10 in cash for each try out with the coaches.


CONSIDERING A CALL TO THE PRIESTHOOD?

St. Peter's Seminary is hosting a Come and See Weekend for men who are 17 years old or older and considering a call to the Priesthood. The weekend will be held Oct. 26-28 and offers a first-hand experience of the life of a seminarian, spiritual help for discernment and an opportunity to meet current seminarians. If you are interested, please see Mr. Polewski or Mrs. Walls for more information.


COR WEEKEND RETREAT
COR is a weekend retreat that will change your life! Get away from the busyness of life and discover who you are, who you are meant to be and how much God loves you. The next COR will be held November 9-11. Please see Mrs. Walls in Campus Ministry for more details and for application forms.


GRADE 12s
Attention ALL potential graduates.  Your university PIN numbers were distributed today during period 1.  If you did NOT receive a number and think you should have please make an appointment to see your counsellor.  

If you have a period 1 spare, or are in morning co-op, please pick up your PIN number from guidance.  ALSO, there are 267 potential grads and only 79 who have their community service hours complete.  You cannot officially graduate if these hours are not completed.  

Please hand them in to guidance signed by yourself and a parent as soon as possible.  Please note, if you are finishing up your last few hours, you cannot perform any work that an individual is usually paid for, even if you have not been paid.  If you require further information please see your guidance counsellor.
