Friday's Announcements

DANCE TEAM There will be a mandatory meeting today at lunch immediately following these announcements in the Drama room for all Dance Team members. SCHOLARSHIPS December scholarships are just around the corner. Make sure to pay attention to detail as many scholarships are due before the Christmas Break. Traditionally December scholarships get the fewest applicants due to increased time demands from work and  family.  Remember that one of the most important parts of a scholarship application are your references. Make sure you select someone who knows you well and can speak to your strengths and character. Also, make sure to give your references plenty of time to craft an amazing letter of reference. Providing information about yourself and the scholarship will help the person writing your letter of reference to make the bes

All profits raised will be donated to mental health initiatives within our school and the community. CHRISTMAS CONCERT Ms. Bisnaire is looking for singers, dancers or instrumentalists to perform at this year's Christmas concert on Dec. 11th and 12th.  People who are interested in performing for the Christmas concert should see Ms. Bisnaire sometime today. SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Will the senior girls volleyball team please report to the Phys. Ed. office now or right at the start of lunch to get their uniform for the season. Again, that`s all senior girls volleyball players to the phys ed office to pick up their uniforms. Please also bring your consent form and money. BOYS HOCKEY St Joe's defeated Holy Names yesterday by a score of 5-2. The family line of Matteo and Mitch Santarossa started fast with a goal by Matteo 19 seconds of the first period. Eric DeGasparo had 2 with assists going to Super Dante DiMario Done, Smooth Aron Donnelly and Back to the Future McFla. BOYS HOCKEY This is just a reminder you will be excused from the film festival today at 2:15 for a 3:30 game at South Windsor arena. DEBATE TEAM This is a reminder to those students participating in the debate tournament this Friday to get your permission forms from Mr. Sylvestre in ROOM 255.  There will be a debate practice after school for all members of the debate team. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITiES The Optimist Club of Forest Glade invites you to attend our 2nd annual Breakfast with Santa & Toy Bingo on Saturday, December 8th from 10:00am to 12:30pm.  This event will be held in the Forest Glade Arena-Auditorium (3205 Forest Glade Dr). A MESSAGE FROM STUDENT COUNCIL: As some of you may have already seen, the Christmas Tree is up and decorated. Please be respectful when walking around it.  POETRY IN VOICE All students competing in the Poetry in Voice must report to the cafeteria on Wednesday morning before period 1 & before O Canada. The Poetry in Voice Recitation Contest is periods 1 & 2 on Wednesday, Nov. 28. If you have any questions, speak to Dr. Brode in room 208 in the afternoon. WRESTLING TEAM Last Saturday, the St. Joe's Wrestling Team went to Tecumseh Vista Academy and competed at our first tournament of the season. It was an exciting experience for our rookies, as their strength, endurance, and newly acquired skills were tested throughout the day. In the end, gold medals were won by Raidyn Landry and Bianca Luciani, silver medals were won by Angelina Aziz, Miranda Iacobini, Avril Johnson, and Zoee Thibault, and a bronze medal was won by Jon Larivière. It is mandatory that each player see Mr Sok's today concerning the Catholic Cup jerseys. This will only take a few minutes of your time,  we need to know what number you wish to put on the back of the jersey. Sorry for the inconvenience but we need them ASAP in order to have them made for the game. Congratulations to the boys' hockey team who defeated Essex's in our home opener 5-0. Although the score does not reflect how well the boys played it was due to strong goaltending from the opposing team.  The score could have been into double figures. REEL CANADA FILM FEST The St. Joseph's REEL Canada Film Day will take place next Tues. November 27. All students will participate in this day by watching one film in the morning and one film in the afternoon. Also, there will be short videos and activities during each session. Grades 9 & 10 students will watch One Week and Sharkwater in the gym that day. Grades 11 & 12 will watch Bon-Cop, Bad Cop and Indian Horse in the cafetorium that day. TRAILER FOR INDIAN HORSE SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB There will be a Social Justice meeting in Room 257 at lunch on Friday. LASER CURLING Yesterday was another great day for Laser curling. Team 1 dominated St Anne’s as the Lasers stole points in the first 5 ends.  St Joe’s had amassed an 8 point lead before St Anne's was able to hit the scoreboard.  Final score was 8-2. Practice this week will be Wednesday at 4:30PM.  GOODFELLOWS NEWSPAPER DRIVE Mature students are needed to help hand out newspapers for the annual Goodfellow Newspaper drive. A variety of hours are available from 9am to 4pm this coming November 22nd to the 24th. Newspapers will be handed out near Tecumseh Mall and hours can be booked in 2-hour segments. COPA DI RAYO El  torneo de reyes begins for the fourth straight year as the Copa di Rayo kicks-off this Wednesday, November 21 at lunch. The scheduled matches are as follows: Match 1 at 11:42 AM has Returning Champs FC playing Longballs FC and Match 2 at 11:55 AM has Sweetermanz FC taking-on Captain Dom. Attention all Grade 12 French Students (core and immersion) University of Ottawa will be visiting during Period 4 on Wednesday November 21st. JUNIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The first cut has been made and the list is up outside the Phys Ed office. Next tryout is on Monday, November 19th @ 4:30PM. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Unis. CURLING TEAM The Laser curling teams were in action yesterday afternoon at Roseland Golf and CurlClubclub. Team 1 started strong in their game against Villanova.  The Lasers took 3 points early and played hard to the very end resulting in a final score of 6-3. Team 2 won their game against Massey by forfeit, and will be well rested and ready to go when they face St. Anne's on Monday. Go Lasers! STAFF LUNCHEON The hospitality class will be preparing food for the second luncheon of the year Thursday during lunch in the staff room for $8.00. Check the website for the menu. CURLING TEAM The two Laser Curling teams were in action yesterday against Assumption.  Team 1 was down 3 points early, but the Lasers came back strong and stole one point in the final end to finish with a 3-3 Tie. Team 2 was also down early but ran out of ends in their comeback bid.  Final score was 7-2 for Assumption. Both teams will be back in action Wednesday at Roseland when they face Villanova.
