Wednesday's Announcements

SCHOLARSHIPS Win up to $22,500 in scholarships for writing and speaking!   Optimist International is sponsoring an essay and oratorical contest.   The theme of this year's essay contest is "Chasing Optimism in the Face of Challenges" and the topic for the speaking contest is "What the World Gains from Optimism." Deadline for submission is Friday February 3rd. SEMI FORMAL DANCE The Black & White Ball will be taking place on Friday February 17th at the Caboto Club.  Tickets go on sale February 2nd at lunch in the Laser box.   There are a limited amount of ticket available for this event so get your tickets as soon as possible as this event is sure to sell out. Tickets are $30 each. Dinner and dancing are included in your ticket price.  Please make sure to bring your signed contract with you in order to purchase your ticket. Tickets will not be sold without a signed contract. EXAMS Semester One exams begin this Thursday.   Take the time to review your notes and study for your exams, Lasers.  Preparation and organization are keys to success. LASER PUCK GIRLS HOCKEY The girls hockey team won their game against Massey yesterday 2-1.  Goals were scored by Camryn Pestru and Laura Germani, both goals were assisted by Zoe Kepran and a great game was played by all!  Congrats girls on a well-deserved win! BOYS HOCKEY The St. Joe's Laser Boys hockey team had to difficult games this week in WECSSAA league action. On Tuesday , the boys faced off against General Amherst in a critical game to determine playoff seedings.  The Boys were out to prove a point against the Generals! The Lasers got off to an early lead and never let up. The Lasers won a 6-2 decision over General Amherst. Evan Ferguson led off with a 5 point Game scoring 2 goals and 3 assists.  Kyle Brothers had 2 goals and 1 assist, while Brayden Mayea had a goal and 2 assists.  Michael Roncone had the other goal for the Lasers.  Daunte Dimario Done had a pair of assists.  Leighton Mertz, Carter Comeau, Cayden Anderson and Michael Flay each c

SOCIAL JUSTICE There is a very important Social Justice meeting today, at lunch, in Room 257. All members of the Social Justice Club must attend. LASER PUCK The girls hockey team gave it their all yesterday in their game against Sandwich.  They lost 2-0, but are ready to make a comeback with a win on Thursday against Massey.  Come out and support the girls at WFCU at 3:15 on Thursday! Tuesday's Announcements

LASER HOOPS Congratulations to the Senior Boys Basketball team on winning 2nd place at the St. Vincent Massey tournament this past weekend.   Overall they went 3-1 and came back from a 20 point deficit thanks to Pierre Yousif.   Their second game was a nail bitter with 63-62 point win and a disputable buzzer beater at the end.   Shout out to Thomas Kennedy for 26 points and 18 rebounds.   The third game was an unfortunate loss to the Colts.   The Lasers ended up playing against Massey for second place and the win.   Shout out to Johnathan Helou for scoring 26 points and leading the team to victory.  Come a

Thursday's Announcments

CURLING The curling team was victorious in it’s opening A-Division game last night.   Trailing by one in the sixth end, Skip Adam Stupnykyj executed a perfect takeout to score three in the end and go into the lead.   The team played a defensive seventh end, forcing a blank and sealing victory 7-6 over the Holy Names Knights.   Great job Lasers. HOSPITALITY  The hospitality class will try to provide 2 type's of soup in the staff room until exams.  We will try to accommodate everybody.
