Tennis

The boys doubles team of Mike Zivcic and Mateo Aleksic were only one win away from advancing to SWOSSAA. At Forest Glade yesterday, the boys fought hard to win three games out of five in a double elimination format. They won their first games against Riverside 8-3 having cushioned a lead of 5-2 early on. After two straight victories, game three was a hard scramble against the Dimeo team from Holy Names with the end result being a 4-8 loss. They won against L’Essor in a 7-7 tie breaker. Their next two match ups were against Sandwich boys. They ended the tournament on a hard fought 8-4 loss, again narrowly missing a spot in next week’s action. Thank you boys for your gritty performance. On the junior side, newcomer Eric Winch displayed some bright spots on the court with impressive results in the singles match ups. Eric won against Riverside 8-6 but lost his second match 4-8. Game three was his highlight reel, trading points with an equally matched opponent from Villanova. A respectful camaraderie developed on the court as both boys returned strong volleys back and forth in a captivating match. Eric’s 8-6 loss was a tough one, but won high praise from onlookers. Great effort Eric yesterday. Your tennis talents bode well for next year’s team. Good luck!
