Friday's Announcements

COURSE SELECTIONS
Lasers, here are some fun facts for this fine Friday.  Fact #1: 890 students need to make course selections for the 2020/2021 school year.  Fact #2: Only 160 students have completed the course selection process. Fact #3: Your course selections are due no later than March 6.  Enjoy the weekend!

GRAD FEE PAYMENT
Attention graduating students: Your grad fee of $75 can be paid using school cash online or in cash through Mrs. Bachmeier in the main office. Remember that the fee is due March 2nd, which is this coming Monday.

VALEDICTORIAN
Attention grade 12 graduates: Are you interested in being this year’s valedictorian? You can find information regarding nominations and the elections process on the Grad Google Classroom. Nominations are due no later than March 27th.

PEER TUTORING SERVICES
Peer tutoring is available to anyone who needs extra help with homework in any subject. Peer tutors will be in the Conference Room beside the attendance office at lunch today. Every time you attend a tutoring session you get a chance to win a gift card of your choice.  All you have to do is show up and each time you get a ballot! 

OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST
Recently, the Optimist International Essay Contest took place. Grade 12 student Isabella Alfini won the local club competition. Her essay about optimism will proceed to the district level of competition. Congratulations Isabella on this great achievement. Best of luck.

ST. CLAIR COLLEGE ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION
A quick reminder for the design students participating in St. Clair College's Architectural CAD Skills Competition next weekend. Don't forget to make arrangements as we meet everyday next week from 3pm-4pm in the design room 167. See Mr. Spina if you have any questions.

OECTA YOUNG AUTHORS CONTESTS
Recently, St. Joseph's students submitted their writing to the OECTA Young Author's Contest. The 4 winning school entries went to the city level of competition. City judging took place on Wednesday and one of our writers was chosen as the poetry winner in the Grades 9 & 10 Division. Congratulations Mackenzie Anderson on your poem titled "Never Want to Be." She will receive a certificate and a cash prize. Mackenzie's poem will proceed to the next level of competition. Good luck.

COME AND SEE WEEKEND
St. Peter's Seminary is hosting a retreat for men ages 17-45 who are considering a call to the priesthood. The retreat will take place from February 28 (which is today) to March 1 and offers spiritual guidance and first-hand experience of the life of a priest. For more information or to register, please see Mr. Polewski or Mrs. Walls.

BOYS HOCKEY

Congratulations to the boys hockey team with their hard working come from behind win in triple overtime. Down 1-0 Noah Morneau scored unassisted in the beginning of the 3rd period with lucky charm coach Laporte making his presents during second period intermission. The boys fought hard till the end with goalie Adrian McBride make stellar saves throughout the game. In the 3rd overtime Noah (Sweet hands) Morneau and Michael, (Back to the Future McFlay) threw a pass over, on a two on one and Michael chipped the puck over the goalies shoulder for the victory. The boys will play St. Annes in a semi final game Monday at 2:30 in the Vollmer arena with a chance to meet rival Villanova in the finals. Go Lasers!

SENIOR GIRLS SOCCER
There will be a brief sign up meeting in the weight room at the beginning of lunch today. Any junior age girls who wish to try out for the senior team are welcome and should attend.

SENIOR BOYS SOCCER
Senior Boys Soccer tryouts will continue at 3:05 PM today. This will be an indoor tryout, please meet in the gymnasium with the appropriate attire and on time to begin at 3:05 PM. If you have any concerns please see Mr. Castagna in CORE Services.

BADMINTON TEAM
Junior Badminton players: Just a reminder to singles players to be at Belle River today by 3:30 for your tournament. Mixed and doubles start at 8:30am tomorrow. Good Luck!

TRACK AND FIELD
Hey, lasers!  Do you run? Do you jump? Do you throw things? If you said yes to any of these that means you may have what it takes to be part of this year's Track and Field team! The team sign up sheet is up at the Phys. Ed office.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see Mrs. Mastromattei.

DRAGON BOATS
If anyone is interested in joining this year's Dragon Boat Races, we will have a meeting at lunch on Monday in Room 219.
