JR. GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Junior Girls basketball team travelled to Belle River this weekend for what turned out to be an awesome tournament experience. On Friday, it was an all around great team effort that helped easily advance the Lasers past the first two rounds of play versus Brennan and L'Essor. In their semi-final game on Saturday, the girls were able to put together their best defensive game of the year, defeating Massey and advancing our junior girls team to the championship game against the Kingsville Cavaliers.

The lasers started strong with an early first quarter lead, frustrating the Kingsville team with our aggressive play and pressure on the ball. It was a hard fought battle in the second half, with both teams showing outstanding resilience and discipline.Unfortunately, in the last quarter of the game, the Kingsville team would capture the lead, and defeat the Lasers by a score of 55-44.

Honourable mention goes out to the defensive efforts of Abbey Jamieson, Molly Sasso, and Cora Mastromattei, who's rebounding efforts and tough inside-play helped propel much of the offense for our team. Leading the team in scoring was the backcourt of Maya Vanella and Kyari Nelson-Crouse, who both shot the lights out. Tournament all stars Maya Vanella and Taylor Guanio showed incredible leadership and spirit throughout the tournament play. The entire team represented our school with pride, perseverance and our contagious Laser spirit. Great job team STJ!
