 LASER NEWS ARTICLE

  • In January of 1970, the last remaining Africville home was destroyed. If you’ve never heard of Africville, you’re not the only one; the tragic tale of this small community has not been as widely known as it should be. Over 400 residents were forced from their homes and ripped away from all the memories they had once known, solely on account of one factor: the colour of their skin. 
  • As we honour black history month, read about the Devasting Destruction of Africville written by Laser News Writer, Caitlin Saintfort.

CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY YOUTH TROUP

  • This is a reminder that there will be a Canadian Cancer Society Youth Troop today at lunch after the 15 minute eating period.  It will be held both in-person and virtually in room 256.

DIASPORA QUILT ACTIVITY

  • The Diaspora Club will be facilitating the Black History Month Quilt Activity today during Period 3. Thank you to all teachers and classes involved!

COMPLIMENT CARDS

  • Hey Lasers! Today is random act of kindness day. To celebrate, the social justice club is bringing back compliment cards! A compliment card is a message with kind words you can write and send to a friend, student, teacher, or administration member. Compliment Cards are free to fill out and a way to send an encouraging and uplifting message to someone in our school. They will be available starting today until next Wednesday. The cards are located next to the main office- please use the wooden box mounted on the wall to place your filled out cards in. Please keep your message to whomever you choose kind and school-appropriate. 
  • We will distribute the compliment cards next Thursday to your 2nd period classrooms so please ensure you know the name of the second period teacher for whoever you are sending your message to. Compliment cards are an easy way to participate in random act of kindness day so please feel free to fill a few out to send to someone in our laser family! Again, the fill out station is located outside of the main office near the wooden box mounted on the wall.

LASER NEWS ANNOUNCEMENTS CAN DRIVE DRESSDOWN Attention lasers! The STJustice Club would like to thank you for your outstanding participation and generosity in this year’s AM800 can drive, bringing the win with the most donations in all of Windsor-Essex. As promised, there will be a full dress down this Wednesday, January 18th.   DANCE TEAM A reminder to the dance team that we have a morning practice TOMORROW Jan 17th. WRESTLING TEAM The Laser Wrestling Team travelled to Sarnia to compete last Saturday. Bringing home Gold medals were Jaclyn Lacoboni and Daniel Piccolo, Silver medals were Joy Uchenna and David Ferro, and a Bronze medal was Evan Fransen. Anthony Mailloux took fourth place. Everyone fought well and fought hard. Despite his injury, Max Thibault demonstrated great composure and class, and showed everyone the fierce spirit of our school. If you see any of our wrestlers in the hallway, congratulate them and perhaps come out to support them at the next tournament this Saturday

 LASER NEWS ANNOUNCEMENTS QUEBEC TRIP Everyone who is going on the Quebec Trip, we will be having a meeting TOMORROW at lunch in room 203.  NEW YORK TRIP There will be a mandatory meeting for all those attending the New York trip tomorrow at lunch in room 261. Please bring your fundraiser order forms and money.  DRAMA SWAG  St. Joes Drama Community. Today is the last day to submit your money for this round of Drama t-shirt and hoodie orders. Please have your money in to the main office by the end of lunch today and make sure your order has been placed on our Google Classroom. Orders will go in today and are expected to arrive within a week.
