Wednesday's Announcements

UNIVERSITY PIN NUMBERS
Grads, the Ontario University Application Centre PIN numbers were delivered to period 1 class yesterday.  If you did not receive a PIN number and feel that you should have, please make an appointment with your guidance counsellor. If you are on Period 1 spare, please pick up your PIN in the guidance office.

FANSHAWE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY OF WINDSOR
Grads, Tomorrow, Fanshawe College will be here at lunch in the atrium.  Also, the University of Windsor Fall Open House is Saturday, November 2 from 10am to 4pm.  It is recommended that you register on-line for this event.

TAKE YOUR KIDS TO WORK DAY
A reminder goes out to grade 9 students that this year's Take Our Kids To Work Day takes place on Wednesday, November 6th.  Please be sure to return your permission forms to your period 1 teacher on or before Monday, November 4th.

SHAD
There will be an information meeting for any students interested in the SHAD summer program on Monday, November 4 at the beginning of lunch in the conference room.  Keagan Yap, a recent SHAD alumnus and ambassador will be presenting.  Please see guidance if you require further information.

HEALTH AND BUSINESS SHSM
A reminder to the GR 11 SHSM health and wellness and Business students interested in the Customer Service certification. You need to stop and pick up a permission form from Mr. Gilbert or the PE office. The trip is limited to 30 students so first to return their forms will be taken.

LOST AND FOUND
The lost and found items are accumulating in the Attendance Office.  There are articles of clothing, water bottles, notebooks.  If you lost something, please check out the lost and found in the Attendance Office.  Anything not claimed by the end of the month will be donated to charity.

BOO GRAMS
Do you have a boo this Halloween? Well if not the student council is giving you a chance to make a move! Purchase a BOO gram in the laser box starting Monday, October 28th until October 30th! Today is the last day to purchase your Boo Grams. Each gram will be $1 for a bundle and will be delivered during the second period tomorrow.

STAFF DINING LOUNGE
The staff dining lounge in room 160 will be open Tuesday to Friday. Check the community web page for this week's menu selection. Put your orders in for take home pre-cooked or fully cooked pizza every Friday. Thursday's menu will feature Halloween treats including pumpkin soup in a pumpkin, Gooooolash, mummy dogs, and spider web pumpkin cheesecake.

SCHOLARSHIPS
There are several scholarships that are due by the end of the month, which is in one day! These scholarships include..... the Rapid Access to Medical Specialist Bursary, the LiveBright Scholarship and the Harold Hewitt Scholarship as well as many more. Most of these scholarships require a modest grade average and financial need, so they are open to many graduating students. Please keep in mind that there are further scholarships coming due in November and are suited for a variety of graduating students. These scholarships include...... the TD Scholarship for Community Leadership, the Canadian Women in Municipal Government Scholarship, the Gap Year Scholarship and the Burger King McLamore Foundation Scholarship as well as many more. As always, if you have any further questions please come and see your guidance team for more information.

SUPER SANTA 5K
The Essex Region Conservation Foundation is calling local high school students to volunteer for the Super Santa 5 km walk/run on Saturday, November 16th in downtown Amherstburg.  Two shifts are available, 11am-4pm and 4pm-7pm.  To register, see the flyer on the volunteer board in the guidance office or click the volunteer link on the Laser Portal

HOMEWORK CLUB
Attention students wanting to attend homework club this week. There will be no formal homework club this week.  However, if you require assistance with any work, please stop by CORE services any day this week during lunch or any day after school until 3:15.

CROSS COUNTRY
Cross country team members please return your washed jerseys to Mr. Strong or Ms. Flynn ASAP. Also, if you ordered a cross country long sleeve shirt, please see Mr. Strong, with your money, to pick it up.

JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lasers please take a second today to give some love to your Junior Lady Laser basketball team members as they pulled off a miracle comeback last night in quarterfinal action. Down 5 with less than a minute left, and without the ball, the Lasers, led by Mya Schram, turned the defensive pressure UP and managed a 7-0 run to finish out the game with a 54-52 win. Clutch free throws by Emily Agasse, who led all scorers with 22 points, and Peri Colthurst brought us to within striking distance! Maya Fuerth and Alessia Bozzi both had late steals and buckets to set up Gabriella "Gabbylicious" Grubesic who buried the game-winner with 8 seconds left! Next up is semifinals on Thursday at Holy Names! Go get 'em Lasers.

SENIOR BOYS BASKETBALL
Any boys interested in Trying out for this year’s team, please sign up using the form posted on the phys ed bulletin board. Your name must be on the signup sheet to tryout. Visit http://bit.ly/stjball19 or scan the QR Code to access the form. Listen for announcements for tryout dates and times. Any questions, please see Mr. Gebrael in room 262.

FOOTBALL
Attention Lasers: it's time for our last football game of the regular season! It will be on Halloween, right after school. That's this coming Thursday! The location is Vista Academy @ 4 o'clock. Please consider sharing rides to come out and support our senior's last high school football game. The players would sure appreciate some fan support!

CHOIR
Attention singers: Choir practice today is cancelled. We will resume practice on Monday at Lunch.

DRAMA CLUB
A reminder to all students planning to audition for this year's Drama Club - auditions will take place immediately after school in the Drama Room today.  If you do not have an audition consent form, please see Mrs. D'Alimonte in the Drama Room 163 asap.

DANCE TEAM
Please sign up by the drama room if you are interested in auditioning for the dance team. There will be an information meeting during lunch in the drama room on Friday, Nov 1st.
